Owing to a funeral having been arranged at Our Lady of Lourdes, Weston-super-Mare on Friday 22nd December, the Latin Mass which was scheduled at 9:30am that day has unfortunately had to be cancelled.

The Mass at Downside Abbey on Sunday 3rd December, the First Sunday of Advent, will be a Missa Cantata (Sung Mass). This Mass will, as usual, be in the crypt chapel of the Abbey. Refreshments will be available afterwards in the Abbey visitor centre.

Help needed for new School Chapel in Salisbury

St Joseph's Catholic School in Salisbury, Wiltshire does not have a chapel. This has resulted in a lack of space to offer true Catholic spirituality, especially through the Sacraments. As a temporary measure we had the occasional use of a cramped RE office, which was inadequate and is no longer possible.

The School's aim, headed and fundraised for by students, is to build a chapel to allow us to offer confessions, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and the Holy Mass more often, as well as offering a space for quiet contemplation, in a liturgically suitable, beautiful and purpose built space.

We have currently raised in the region of £6,070 out of our £20,000 target. Therefore, we need your help; if you can help at all (whether with money, items or the building side) or would like more information please contact Jack Travers at jacktravers81@gmail.com, otherwise we would be most grateful of your prayers.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated by the students and staff of St Joseph's.

Father Bede Rowe has now taken up his new post in Glastonbury. He will be offering a Low Mass every Sunday at 6:00pm, starting on October 1st. The 12:30pm 3rd Sunday Mass offered by Fr Philip Thomas at Glastonbury has now ceased.

Masses in Glastonbury - update

As many of you will know, Father Bede Rowe will be taking up his new post as Parish Priest and Rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Glastonbury from Sunday 17^th September. He will be offering a Low Mass at 12:30pm that day, being the third Sunday of the month, as Fr Philip Thomas has done up until now. There will NOT, however, be a Latin Mass on Sunday 24^th September, as was advertised in the September Mass listings.

As of Sunday 1^st October, Fr Rowe will offer a Low Mass every Sunday at 6:00pm. Weekday Latin Mass times at St Mary’s will be advised in due course.

September 2017 Mass Listings

LMS Pilgrimage to Glastonbury - Saturday 9th September

The LMS Pilgrimage to Glastonbury

The annual Latin Mass Society Pilgrimage to Glastonbury will take place this year on Saturday 9^th September, the nearest Saturday to the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

There will be a Sung Mass in the Extraordinary Form at 11:30 am in the Shrine Church of Our Lady of Glastonbury, St Mary's, Magdalene St, Glastonbury BA6 9EJ (see map below).

Mass will be followed by Lunch and the Rosary in the Lady Chapel Crypt of Glastonbury Abbey. The day will finish with Benediction at 3pm in the Church.

The Celebrant will be Fr Philip Thomas, and the music will be provided by the Rupert Bevan Singers.

All are welcome.

Tea and coffee will be available after Mass in the Church Hall, please bring a packed lunch.

Mass Listings for August 2017

Mass listings for August 2017 are below. Three Low Masses are planned for the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on 15th August. These will be at Our Lady of Lourdes, Weston-Super-Mare (7:00pm), St Gregory's, Cheltenham (7:00pm) and The Holy Ghost, Yeovil (12:00pm).

The regular first Sunday Low Mass at Downside Abbey will be a Missa Cantata this month, for the Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord (6th August). This will be at the usual time, 11:15am, in the Crypt Chapel.

The first Thursday Low Mass at Weston ceased at the beginning of July. This has now been replaced with a Low Mass at 9:30am every Friday.

Young Catholic Adults Weekend Douai 2017

During the weekend of the 20-22 October 2017, Young Catholic Adults will be running a retreat at Douai Abbey, it will feature Fr. Larence Lew O.P., and Canon Poucin ICKSP.

The weekend will be full-board. YCA will be running the weekend with the Schola Gregoriana of Cambridge of Cambridge who will be holding Gregorian Chant workshops.

There will also be a Marian Procession, Rosaries, Sung Masses, Confession and socials. All Masses will be celebrated in the Extraordinary form.

Please note to guarantee your place this year Douai Abbey have requested that everyone books in 3 weeks before the start of the weekend i.e.29th Sept 2017.

Chartres Pilgrimage 2017

Clifton pilgrims in the Channel Tunnel

The annual Pentecost Pilgrimage from Notre-Dame de Paris to Notre-Dame de Chartres was particularly well-attended this year, with around eighty people from England and Wales among the 9,000 who prayed, sang and chatted their way through the French countryside. 

Seven of us (pictured above, minus Deacon Seth Phipps, FSSP) were from Clifton Diocese, including Fathers Alexander Redman and Bede Rowe, who led meditations and the Rosary, and heard confessions as we walked.

The Traditional Liturgy is always an integral part of the Chartres Pilgrimage. We started bright and early on Friday morning, 2nd June, with Low Mass in the crypt of Westminster Cathedral, before setting off on a coach to Dover for the ferry crossing to Calais.

The pilgrimage proper began on Saturday morning with Solemn High Mass in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris. High Mass on Pentecost Sunday was in a field near the town of Rambouillet, celebrated by Monsignor Michael Schmitz, Vicar General of the Institute of Christ the King, Sovereign Priest in the United States.

The culmination of the pilgrimage, as always, was the final Pontifical High Mass in Chartres Cathedral, this year celebrated by His Eminence Cardinal Raymond Burke.

After a meal and a good night's sleep, the British chapters concluded our pilgrimage with High Mass in the chapel of Notre-Dame de Sous-Terre, in the crypt of Chartres Cathedral.

Father Alexander Redman will be celebrating a Low Mass next Thursday, 29th June, for the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul. Please note that there will NOT be a Mass this Friday for the Feast of the Sacred Heart, as previously advertised.
